The Afrotrans Summer School 2025 has officially begun!
The first part of the programme took place in Klagenfurt, Austria (07.09.2025 – 16.09.2025), where participants from Europe and Africa engaged in intensive training on modern transport technologies and mobility management.
The activities began at Alpen-Adria University (AAU), one of the project partners. The TeWi Faculty presented its research areas and ongoing initiatives related to transport and mobility, setting the stage for the training modules that followed.
Participants then moved into specialised sessions, including traffic modelling with MATLAB and traffic control simulation using SYNCHRO.
🔧 A key component of the Austrian programme was the professional visits and expert meetings, which provided valuable insights into practical transport operations, including:
-
STRABAG – the largest road construction company in Europe,
-
ASFINAG – the operator of Austria’s motorway network,
-
LL-LABS – showcasing European research projects in mobility and intelligent transport systems.
The programme also offered hands-on modules such as:
-
an introduction to Python and Jupyter/Colab for transport research,
-
presentations at the Drohne Hall and a demonstration of SURAA’s autonomous minibus,
-
workshops on machine learning for transport data analysis,
-
sessions on AI-supported learning for transportation engineers and the fundamentals of prompt engineering.
The Austrian segment concluded with a group wrap-up focused on shared reflections, ideas and next steps within the Afrotrans collaboration.
