GDANSK UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

Gdansk University of Technology (GUT) is one of the largest and oldest technical university in Poland with over 100 experience of being both research and university center in North Part of Poland. In 2019 Gdansk Tech achieved the status of the second-best University in Poland according to the competition ‘Excellence Initiative – Research University’Today.

 The university employs over 2600 staff, including nearly 1200 academic teachers (113 titular professors, 165 associate professors and 651 assistant professors). One measure of the university’s achievements in research and development is the yearly contribution of over 2000 publications, of which nearly 300 appear in the world’s most renowned scientific journals on the ISI list and more than 226 are scientific monographs and academic textbooks. The impressive premises of GUT are occupied by 9 faculties, which offer Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral studies conducted in full time and part time systems in many areas of science and technology. GUT has potential in the area of research is also confirmed by patent applications and significant publishing achievements. In the area of employee publishing activity, it is worth noting the increase in the number of publications in 2018 (an increase of 18% compared to 2017) in reputable foreign journals from the JCR list, indexed in the Web of Science database – this is the highest number in the last 10 years – 822. In 2019, the university obtained 42 patents, while researchers and PhD students published more than 2.5 thousand publications. Gdansk University of Technology actively participates in obtaining funds from structural funds, national funds and international initiatives to support research projects. In 2018, the university obtained funds for the implementation of 55 national research projects in the total amount of approx. PLN 21 million. In 2018, GUT obtained funding for the implementation of 52 projects, as part of the EU structural funds and national and international research programs.

 

 

 

In 2019, employees of the GUT started the implementation of 16 new projects and continue 46 research and development projects focused on the implementation of innovative technologies, carried out as part of scientific and industrial consortia. Industrial partners are often recognized in Poland and in the world companies implementing innovative products and constantly involved in conducting research projects. Projects of this type are implemented mainly at the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics and at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering (FCEE) is one of the oldest and the largest faculties at GUT. It has full academic rights – a privilege to grant BSc, MSc, PhD and DSc degrees. At the moment there are almost 200 academic teachers delivering courses for over 4600 students. FCEE have been involved in many international projects including INTERREG BSR projects in last three years (NOAH, CONTRA, MORPHEUS, BSE WATER, WISA) and NICE (SC5-27-2020, Innovative And Enhanced Nature-Based Solutions For Sustainable Urban Water Cycle, Horizon 2020, December 2020). GUT is also (in 2017) in the top ten best universities in Poland according to the „Perspektywy” ranking and has the first place in the ranking of universities most often selected by the applicants published by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Since 2019 Gdansk University of Technology has been among the 10 laureates of the program of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education ‘Initiative of Excellence – Research University’. What’s more, in this prestigious competition Gdansk University of Technology was recognized as the best technical university in Poland. Scientists perform both teaching and research as well as some dedicated work for industry.
