One of the nine faculties is the Faculty of Applied Sciences. The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the three departments of this faculty, together with the Department of Electrical Engineering, and the Department of Computer Engineering. The Department of Civil Engineering focuses on designing and building large projects including roads, bridges, buildings, tunnels and water systems. For civil engineering at UOR, particular research and teaching (currently teaching is only at bachelor level – equivalent to BACHELOR HOUNOURS for total of 6 years: a) a preparatory year called PREPOLYTECHNIQUE (French), b) 3 years of a first level called “GRADUAT”(French), and 2 years of a second level called “TECHNICAL LEVEL”) interests are oriented towards the following fields:

  • Transportation Engineering with focus on the design, the construction, and the maintenance of roads, airports, subway systems, and railroads. The design, the safety, and the efficiency of these transportation systems are all under the purview of a transportation engineer.
  • Structural Engineering with focus on the structural design and the analysis of all types of construction projects, from skyscrapers to train tunnels.
  • Environmental Engineering with focus on the protection of people and the planet through design that emphasizes sustainability.
  • Architectural Engineering with special focus on the design and construction of buildings.
  • Water Resource Engineering with focus on water usage for irrigation, human consumption, and sanitation. This research field deals with collecting water from the earth and getting it where it needs to go in ways that are safe and sustainable.

The Faculty staff to be involved in this project implementation is headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Claude Takenga and does further include Prof. Dr. Basile Kazingufu and Prof. Hilaire Mambo. All of them do have high expertise and several years of experience in teaching Engineering and/or basic scientific courses (including practical labs and practical projects) at Bachelor level.
