UNIVERSITE LIBRE DES PAYS DES GRANDS LACS

Université Libre des Pays des Grands Lacs (ULPGL) from Democratic Republic of Congo is a Christian university of the Protestant Churches of the Great Lakes Countries ranked 2nd best university of DR CONGO in 2019 by Webometrics international agency. ULPGL is a private university and accredited by the Congolese Government. ULPGL created as the Higher Institute of Protestant Theology in 1985 and transformed into a university (ULPGL) in 1990. It is located in the city of Goma, in North Kivu province, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. ULPGL organizes seven faculties that are Theology, Law, Economics and management, Community health and development, Psychology and education sciences, Applied sciences and technologies and medicine. ULPGL trains from nursery to PhD. In 2022, ULPGL has 3,200 students at the university, 1,400 students in secondary school and 1,350 schoolboys and girls in primary and kindergarten.

 The mission of the university is to train experts by providing them with high quality academic and scientific education, in close collaboration with local communities. ULPGL has several partnerships with national and international institution to ensure high quality of education and research.

 The Faculty of Applied Sciences and technologies established in 2004 aims at empowering Congolese youth with technical skills to tackle local and global challenges related to Civil, Computer and electrical engineering. The faculty has launched nine classes of engineers whom 80% are employed and self-employee in different sectors. In 2018, the faculty has 649 students enrolled and more than 70% of students are in Civil Engineering.

 The Civil engineering department organizes three specializations:

  • Bridges and Roads Technologies and transport,
  • Structural engineering (Concrete and metallic structures),
  • Hydraulics.
